Misfits Mix

Trying to narrow down the 3+ gigs of Misfits related music I have down to a few tracks for a mix was an attempt at absurdity.  I’m still not sure if I like this one or not, and may do another one in the coming weeks, after I can put a bit more thought into it.

The first time I heard the Misfits was 26 years ago.  I heard a single song on a mix tape that someone at school made for me.  Thus began my obsession with Glenn and his various projects.  I saw Danzig (Samhain) for the first time in 88.  Though the name on the marquee was Danzig, they did more Samhain material than Danzig, since the first album had just been released.  I’ve since seen Danzig more times than I can even remember.  Though none of them compared to this first show (where I met Chuck Biscuits).  I would later meet Glenn on several occasions at the various comic book stores I worked.

I have a special place in my heart for Bobby Steele.  Perhaps the least none of the early Misfits, if you have a favorite Misfit song, Bobby probably wrote it.  He worked with the band from 79-81.  I got to hang out with Bobby on several occasions in the 90s.  He showed up in Norfolk for a show at Cogan’s (not the current Cogan’s) and had no road crew.  So a couple of us helped him all night, at which time we learned that GG Allin had died the night before.  On 2 different occasions, I got to sing Bullet with Bobby on stage.

So, selecting such a small group of songs was a real challenge, especially since I wanted to include a few covers.  As I said, I’ll probably do another one after this first attempt sinks in, but for now, here it is:

What plan will you follow now?

I Turned Into A Zombie - Misfits
Mommy, Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight - Bouncing Souls
Horror Biz - Samhain
Good - Eerie Von
Where Eagles Dare - Sloppy Seconds with Bobby Steele
Possession - Samhain with John Christ
Horror Hotel - Misfits
London Dungeon - Prong (before becoming Danzig’s band)
Last Caress - Fiend Club Lounge
Last Caress - Misfits
Bullet - The Undead (Bobby Steele’s band after leaving Misfits)
Spook City USA - Misfits
Vampira - Misfits (original studio version)
Braineaters - Misfits
Devilock - Misfits
Human Pony Girl - Samhain
I’m the One - Danzig
American Nightmare - Misfits (my all-time fav Misfit song)
